Rebecca,

15NP0022 - Replacement Conservatory at 2 Elishaw Moor, Otterburn, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE19 1JH

Thank you for consulting me on the above application.

Whilst I do not think that the proposed red brick and glass replacement conservatory is in keeping with the traditional building style generally found in the National Park, it is not necessarily out of keeping with this specific building and that adjoining since they already have elements of red brick construction and this is a replacement for an existing UPVC conservatory.

Due to the screening effect of the existing vegetation and trees set within the grounds of the property and the neighbouring garden I do not feel that the proposed work would have a significant impact upon the landscape character or views of this part of the National Park. The property is visible from the A68 across the front garden but existing conifer trees break up this view and any view gained is likely to be fleeting as passing cars will be travelling reasonably fast on this duelled section of the road. I note that there is no intention of the applicant to remove the trees providing the screening effect around the property and I would wish that to remain the case.

Whilst I cannot find reference to the need for any new exterior lighting, the application site lies within the dark skies Park and as such any new exterior lighting should be dark sky friendly, ie not add to existing light pollution levels. Guidance on this is set out in the NPA Lighting Master Plan here.

I can confirm that no notable trees are likely to be affected by this application and formal tree protection measures are not necessary.

I have no objections to this proposed development. If you have any questions relating to the above please do not hesitate to get back in touch.

Regards
